D.A.M. Magazine interview

Never Answer the Phone

Remembering hurts. And sometimes it’s hard to forget what has been. What we’ve lost, and what we promised. Remembering hurts because you can’t run away from yourself, form your face on the mirror. I got scars to remember me what I’ve done in the past. My body is covered of signs, that tie my memory to this land.Remembering hurts as the streets where you lived, as the scent of the one you loved, as the tapping of the rain on your coat.

This is why I often need to forget.

This is the life of Henry Gustav Molaison

He knew his name. That much he could remember.

H.M. and the profound amnesia. He had lost the ability to form new memories.

For the next 55 years, each time he met a friend, each time he ate a meal, each time he walked in the woods, it was as if for the first time.

“And yet every time I walked in the room, it was like we’d never met.”
